Collages: Linder Sterling

Priestess of the punk and post-punk scene in Manchester, Linder Sterling uses collage as a weapon.

She takes her elements in erotic magazines as well as in automotive, cultural or culinary magazines, all times combined, and composes photomontages where the pornographic clichés and the tools of everyday life collide, to tear the woman-object .

Through her atypical assemblages, she shows women as a commercial object, highlights sexist stereotypes and the indecency contained in advertising imagery.

One of her most famous pieces, a naked woman whose breasts are mouths and head an iron, was used by graphic designer Malcom Garret for the cover of the single "Orgasm Addict" Buzzcocks. A punk-themed sesame that continued in the creation of the fanzine "Secret Public" with the journalist Jon Savage, and the realization of numerous flyers and album covers like that of "Real life" of the band Magazine.
