Collages: René Apallec

Probably born in Normandy in the last decade of the 19th century, it was not until 2007 that hundreds of collages signed by René Apallec were discovered in a granary in downtown Toulouse in the south of France.

For the moment, there are few facts about his life. Nurse during the First World War? No official document attests...

He would have lived in Le Havre 2 years before joining his future companion in Toulouse in 1923. Not belonging to any artistic movement or family, René Apallec did a great part of his work in secret and refused to expose his collages, especially the series Volatile Mythology and Broken Gulps which he considered politically incorrect. His collages touch cinema, poetry, ancient mythologies, politics, war...

And now?
